Very few artists who work with ceramics choose jewellery as the expression of their creativity. It requires a love of intricate and meticulous detail that demands time, patience and precision.
Each piece that I create is different. I begin with a concept and then turn it into a shape that I sand by hand before a first firing. In the next stage, I enamel the piece before firing it a second time. Finally, to give each piece a metallic finish, I create a sheen of bronze, copper, gold or silver that I achieve by soaking, or by meticulously applying by brush.
I then put each piece through a third firing. When the process is complete, the result is a piece of jewellery that is as exquisite and unique as its wearer.
